Sowing in the seed greenhouse of the Bala centre (Senegal)

The Ivory Foundation has developed a reproductive seed production project in Senegal with the organic seed company Agrosemens.

The Bala medical centre in eastern Senegal, near Tambacounda, is one of the pilot sites associated with this initiative. Abdourhamane, head of the Bala garden, has prepared new trays with seeds from the project partner: tomatoes, aubergines, peppers, lettuce and red onion. For tomatoes, aubergines, peppers and lettuce, the seeds are second generation seeds from local crops grown in the greenhouse during the previous season.
In the cultivation protocol, regular reporting of the number of successfully germinated seeds and mature plants is recorded in a spreadsheet to assess the viability of the project.
