Potato planting in the Traversine Villiot garden with children from CLAJE

This afternoon, children from the Paris Anim centre (CLAJE) came to the Traversine Villiot garden for a potato planting activity.

Potatoes are easy for children to plant: all they have to do is put a tuber in the ground, which will then quickly sprout, produce foliage and take root.
After a few weeks, when the plant is vigorous enough, the first tubers will form along the roots to produce future potatoes.

A textile tub was installed and filled with the children with a rich substrate for the potatoes. This was made up of semi-decomposed dead leaves and soil enriched with fertile compost.

Once the tray was full, the children dug holes to place the potatoes with the sprouts facing upwards, then gently covered them with soil.
