Chickens and biochar

In Roosboom garden, the hen house is also a place for experimenting biochar.
It is mixed with straw on the ground of the shelter. this combination has a double effect:
-First, it cleans the henhouse, absorbs liquids, eliminates odors, and the presence of flies and parasites.
-In addition, combination of chicken droppings, biochar and straw is an excellent contribution to compost.
It accelerates the decomposition, and the biochar, already enriched with the droppings nutrients, will store additional nutrients from the compost, and fully play its beneficial role for the plants.
Indeed, in studies conducted by the Botswana College of Agriculture, the hen droppings – biochar mix was the most effective combination for crops.
