Market garden project at Village Pilote, Senegal

In 2024, The Ivory Foundation integrated Village Pilote into its seed production program in Senegal, installing a 200 m² greenhouse dedicated to the production of reproducible peasant seeds. Village Pilote is a Franco-Senegalese association created in 1994, which works to defend children’s rights. Every year, it takes charge of around 400 young people aged 3 to 25, in situations of social disruption, offering them support to help them become self-sufficient.

The context of this project differs from that of Dawady and Popenguine, where actions are focused on women’s groups. Here, the aim is to support young people in vulnerable situations, by guiding them towards vocational training, agriculture being one of the paths proposed.

The greenhouse will welcome one of the five groups of young people in the “Oasis” program every day.

This program enables them to discover various vocational workshops, such as metalwork, woodworking, electricity and plumbing/masonry, in order to facilitate their future orientation.

A program set up with the support of Agrosemens and the Fondation Marie-Pierre Crosnier Mangeat
