Care of Malanti strawberry plants

posted in: Malanti Garden, Swaziland

Strawberries do well in Eswatini! The women in charge of the Malanti “Garden of Skills” have reserved a special place for them: a circular mandala.

This year, the plants have produced their first crop of fruit, as well as numerous runners, which the women transplant all around the mandala, enlarging its diameter.
One plant can produce several runners, which are branches that creep along the ground and on which small strawberry plants with roots appear about every 15-20 cm.
When they reach maturity, the stem can be cut off and these plants can be replanted, producing fruits the following year.
