As part of the nursery renovation, the Roosboom team, assisted by Designing Hope, manufactured two new seedling trays to complement the two existing ones. Made from thick 20 cm high planks, the trays measure 4.30 m long by 80 cm wide, providing an ideal surface for sowing and growing young plants. To cover them, two frames, each measuring 2.15 m, were made from 4 × 4 cm battens and then covered with 40% shade netting, providing effective protection from the sun and pests. This construction was carried out with Trevor, one of the two gardeners on site. It was an opportunity to train him in the use of new tools recently made available to the Halfway House, including a screwdriver and a circular saw. This project was both technical and educational, strengthening the autonomy of the local team and the quality of the vegetable garden facilities, and will double the production capacity of plants for the vegetable garden.
