New sewing activity at Malanti’s ‘Garden of Skills’

A new activity has been launched in the sewing workshop at Malanti’s ‘Garden of Skills’ in Eswatini.
Designing Hope has entrusted the local seamstresses with the task of making fabric memory games, entirely by hand.

Each piece of the game is made up of squares of shweshwe, a fabric emblematic of southern Africa with varied patterns and colours, carefully inserted into a black cotton canvas frame. The result is an
elegant and colourful set, where each pair of identical squares must be found – a game that is educational, sensory and sustainable.

This first order, representing more than 2,000 squares to be made, provides a new source of income for women recently trained in sewing at the garden.
