In Dawady, eastern Senegal, the community garden installed by The Ivory Foundation next to the health center is coming back to life after the well was overburdened.
As the water level had dropped, the well had to be deepened by a further 10 m to keep the pump submerged.
This intervention prevented the women from cultivating their vegetable garden during the year, as the intervention was extensive and deprived them of water for several weeks.
Collective corn production took place during the rainy season, but everything is now in place to welcome the women back to their individual vegetable gardens, with basins filled with water thanks to the new installation in the well.
However, the part of the garden dedicated to seed production and the production of vegetables for pregnant women under the care of the health center has been able to maintain its activity, using the solar well that completes the installation.
Eggplants were harvested and distributed to the women, and the greenhouse was used to produce seedlings for the new season.
