Harvesting Swiss chard in the Palissa garden at St Paul’s School – Leribe, Lesotho

Young trainees at St Paul’s School’s educational farm in Leribe have harvested a bountiful crop of Swiss chard in the circular Palissa garden, which they maintain alongside the school’s pupils. Throughout the week, pupils from the four classes take turns to look after the various growing beds, learning about gardening techniques and the plant cycle. The freshly harvested spinach will be served in the canteen that evening – a truly short supply chain – as the school is a boarding school. It’s a great way to combine learning, independence and healthy eating for the children.
