The vegetable garden at St. Monica’s Farm was built on the principle of permaculture, with 80 cm wide raised beds on which the young deaf and hard-of-hearing gardeners grow vegetables quite densely, combining varieties that are compatible in terms of volume and complement their nutritional needs.
The fact of densifying the cultures makes it possible to limit the water consumption. To prepare and maintain these plots, The Ivory Foundation has provided the farm with a Campagnole. This tool allows to aerate the soil and to break the clods on a width of 80 cm. It is easy to handle and has wheels that facilitate the maintenance of the beds.
