Transplanting and gardening

Children from the CLAJE, a community center in the Villiot-rapée area of the 12th arrondissement of Paris, joined the Designing Hope team for an afternoon of gardening in the Traversine Villiot garden, where they transplanted seedlings collected on the roof of the Bercy nursery school : Stalks of chard, celery and fennel were added to the petals of the mandala shaped vegetable garden, freeing up space in the above-ground tubs on the roof terrace for our spring seedlings.

They then added onions around the petals of earth. Gardening showed them the importance of teamwork : they helped each other to plant. While one of them dug, the other planted, each making his or her own contribution to the growth of this shared garden, which they are making more and more their own…
