Setting up a second nursery at Roosboom Halfway House

In addition to the five women in charge of the vegetable garden at the Halfway house in Roosboom, two men help out four days a week with the more physical tasks.

This month, they set about creating a second nursery, based on a first model set up in January.
This new nursery consists of a 4-meter-long wooden frame, topped by a removable frame stretched with sunshade fabric.

The latter offers several advantages: it limits evaporation under the scorching sun of southern Africa, lessens the impact of heavy rainstorms, and also protects young plants from damage caused by crickets, which are particularly destructive at this stage of growth.
