Preparing nurseries in Sinthiou Toumani, Eastern Senegal

posted in: Dawady

As part of the establishment of market gardening areas in five villages around Dawady, in Eastern Senegal, supported by The Ivory Foundation, Malik and Abdhouramane, who are in charge of the programme, carried out a field mission to assist with the organisation of the first crops. Sinthiou Toumani, a village located in the bush an hour’s drive from Dawady, is one of the villages involved in this initiative.

The plots were laid out in a structured manner: a precise grid was used to create cultivation beds, the number of which corresponds to the number of producer groups in the village. Two pilot beds were then worked to prepare for the installation of the nurseries.

A first batch of organic seeds provided by Agrosemens, a partner in the project, was planted in these nurseries. This operation marks the start of the market gardening and seed production programme in this rural area, paving the way for regular and autonomous production.
