Setting up the growing beds in the Roosboom greenhouse

While the greenhouse is still under construction by the Lesotho team, a team of 4 women and 2 men from Roosboom set about installing the growing beds in the greenhouse, under the guidance of Sphephile and Fezile, who had come from Eswatini to share their experience.
The beds are 80cm wide, spaced 30cm apart. As the land is sloping, the paths are kept grassed to prevent rainwater run-off. The beds have been positioned parallel to the slope for the same purpose.
The men first cut the contours of the cultivation beds with a spade, then dig the cultivated areas roughly but deeply. The women then take charge of weeding and raking the soil.

A project undertaken by Designing Hope with the support of the Bel Foundation and The Ivory Foundation.
