Revival of the vegetable garden in Senthiou Maka

posted in: Bala Garden, Senegal

The village of Senthiou Maka, located near the Bala health centre in Senegal, was one of the most dynamic market gardening areas supported by The Ivory Foundation as part of its collaboration with Kaicedrat and the Fondation pour une Maternité sans Risque (Foundation for Safe Motherhood). This season, a problem with access to water due to a pump failure unfortunately led to the loss of crops. During a follow-up visit after the pump was repaired, it was decided to relaunch the project. The head of the seed programme at the Bala centre will soon accompany the women’s collective to set up a nursery using seeds provided by The Ivory Foundation. The women of the village are highly motivated to restart their vegetable garden, aware of its importance for the nutrition and health of the inhabitants, especially young children and pregnant women.
