Onion harvest at the Roosboom Halfway House garden

The Roosboom Halfway House has just harvested a bountiful crop of onions, grown from seed to maturity in the centre’s vegetable garden. These onions will be stored and used gradually in meals served to the children, supplying the kitchen for several weeks.

This harvest illustrates the significant increase in the garden’s productivity this year. The arrival of four women and two men to reinforce the team has ensured regular maintenance of the plots and a significant increase in production volumes.

This collective effort is reflected every day in the children’s meals, which are fresher, more varied and always nourished by vegetables from the garden.
