Now that the corn has grown and the squash is growing, it’s time to plant beans to their feet !
The principle of milpa is the optimization of space, by the association of three plants, which provide mutual benefits to each-other:
- The corn will serve as tutor for climbing beans.
- The squash serves as a ground cover, to limit evaporation.
- Beans will provide nitrogen for corn.
This culture association is particularly adapted to the context of space limitation at St Monica’s Farm.
