Launch of the community garden in Sinthiou Toumani, Dawady region, eastern Senegal

As part of its commitment to the isolated villages around the Dawady health centre, The Ivory Foundation is supporting the creation of four new market gardens this year.

The villages selected for this programme benefit from access to water, which has already been set up by partner NGO Eau Claire.

In Sinthiou Toumani, the project includes the installation of a wire fence, a wicket gate and cement basins serving as water reserves for irrigation, fed by the borehole pump. Once the fence has been erected, the major challenge is to prepare the ground in arid soil, in intense heat of 45°C.

This initiative is part of a series of actions aimed at strengthening food security and promoting sustainable agricultural practices in rural communities in eastern Senegal.
