For the first training session financed by The Ivory Foundation, the agroforestry technician working in the Yagma garden made compost with the women of the neighbourhood.
The principle consists of digging a 3 by 1 meter bed to a depth of about 30 cm, in which carbon and nitrogen elements are mixed in alternating layers. The women will incorporate manure, soil, fresh leaves, dead leaves, and twigs, taking care to water the mixture between each layer. This activity also provided an opportunity to discuss the different types of fertilisation in agriculture and the different ingredients of organic fertilisation as well as their roles and importance.
