The young people at Levi’s Nek Farm harvested their carrots, the result of several weeks of careful tending. This activity illustrates the essential balance of the site: crops for sale, necessary for the farm’s economic viability, and a diverse local vegetable garden, designed to provide young people with a healthy, varied and balanced diet throughout the year.
The vegetables from the kitchen garden, including these freshly harvested carrots, reinforce the farm’s food self-sufficiency while allowing young people to learn agricultural techniques for a variety of crops: sowing, maintenance, crop rotation, sustainable soil management, etc.
