Preparing a fertiliser tree nursery in Roosboom

Summer, which corresponds to the rainy season in southern Africa, is the ideal time to set up a fertiliser tree nursery. These trees have been chosen for their ability to fertilise the soil by producing nitrogen nodules at their roots, which feed the vegetables planted around them.
They also provide useful shade for the crops when placed on the market gardening beds.
To achieve this, the women in charge of the Roosboom garden, with the help of the children from Half Way House, dug a trench to keep the moisture in, and placed plastic planting bags filled with a mixture of soil and compost.
The trees need deep pots so that their downward roots are not hindered in their growth.
The trees will be replanted within a maximum of 2 months to continue their growth in the vegetable garden, spaced several metres apart to optimise their growth and their ability to fertilise the plots.
