Planting of strawberry plants in the Grand Potager

Autumn is the ideal time to prepare the vegetable garden before winter. Florian and Marie came to help Emile.

The strawberry beds in the Grand Potager de Fontenille had grown so much during the season that we were able to double them to create two new 20m long beds covered with young plants. All we had to do was to extract the runners of the strawberry plants from the first beds. Strawberry plants belong to a family of plants that reproduce each year by producing a long stem that can reach more than a metre, on which small strawberry plants will appear every 15 to 20 cm.

After a few weeks, small roots form under each plant, allowing the young plants to be transplanted and to take root immediately. They will be ready to produce fruit next season!
