Once the nursery frame and internal grid had been installed, all that remained to be done was to fit a protective frame with a number of purposes:
– Reduce the intensity of the sun’s rays, which are particularly hot in southern Africa, with a 40% sunshade fabric.
– Limit evaporation and maintain a cool, moist environment to encourage germination.
– Prevent locusts and grasshoppers from attacking young shoots.
Another advantage is that, once the seedlings have gained some vigor, they can be watered through the net. The water is slowed down and spread out in its fall, watering without damaging the young plants.
