Bulembu Garden

The team of 6 trainers in permaculture from Designing Hope in Piggs Peak have been setting up an experimental garden in Bulembu, border town with South Africa. The experiment involves the use of locally produced biochar, integrated in permaculture raised beds, as well as organic non-hybrid seeds from Agrosmens. With the support of The Ivory Foundation.

This garden replaces a former garden previously operated with chemical inputs and non reproducible seeds.

The issue is important because this garden aims at providing fresh vegetables for 370 orphans hosted by the local NGO in Bulembu.

The raised beds of 40 meters long, also benefit from an irrigation system.

Over the coming weeks, we will evaluate the productivity of the garden, in comparison to the “traditional” operation (with chemical inputs) that prevailed before.
