An open-air fireplace at Levi’s Nek

Posté dans : Farming our Future Eng

The young deaf and hard-of-hearing people of Levi’s Nek have a ritual: to gather around the fire every evening, a convivial moment to warm up in winter, and even sometimes throughout the year, as the nights in this mountainous region are often chilly… As well as the laughter and conviviality of getting together, there’s always a pot on the fire to prepare traditional meals and boil beans, which take a long time to cook. In this way, they reduce their gas consumption. The construction of this circular fire pit protects their fireplace from the wind, and allows them to sit around it more comfortably.
