A thriving agroforestry seed farm in Sandiara

The seed farm developed by APAF with the support of The Ivory Foundation and the Marie-Pierre Crosnier Mangeat Foundation is becoming a true model of agroforestry.

Every tree is integrated into the system with a specific function: windbreaks to protect the greenhouse, soil fertilisation, living hedges, fruit production, the provision of biomass for compost, or shade for crops.

The plots cultivated outside the greenhouse thus benefit from natural fertilisation and partial shade, which promote plant growth and limit the effects of the sun and drought.

The farm also puts into practice the principles of agroecology, combining crop cultivation with small-scale livestock farming. The presence of three pigs, fed exclusively on plant matter, enables the regular production of organic manure to enrich the vegetable garden.

A concrete example of the integration of agroforestry, seed production and soil fertility.
