A natural and effective biopesticide for the vegetable garden

In this video, inspired by our exchanges of experiences with our partners in Senegal, we show you how to make a natural, simple and effective biopesticide using readily available ingredients: garlic, chilli, neem leaves, papaya leaves, neem oil and black soap.

This preparation helps combat many vegetable garden pests, whilst respecting the environment and the health of users. It forms part of an agroecological approach aimed at reducing the use of chemicals and strengthening gardeners’ self-reliance.

This biopesticide is particularly effective against whiteflies (aleurodes), but also against other insects and certain diseases. It acts as a repellent, a natural insecticide and a mild antifungal agent.

A simple, economical and reproducible solution, adapted to local conditions and environmentally friendly.

What is this treatment effective against?

 Insects (mainly)

  • Whiteflies (Bemisia tabaci, Trialeurodes vaporariorum)
  • Aphids
  • Thrips
  • Mites (red spider mites)
  • Young caterpillars (limited but possible effect)

 Diseases (mainly preventive effect)

  • Powdery mildew
  • Certain surface moulds
  • Fungal growth (moderate effect)

 Why it works :

  • garlic = antibacterial / antifungal
  • chilli pepper = powerful repellent
  • neem = natural insecticide (disrupts insect life cycles)
  • black soap = suffocates insects + improves adhesion

 Tips for use

  • spray early in the morning or late in the day
  • avoid direct sunlight
  • test on a few leaves before applying to the whole plant
  • reapply after rain
