In a bid to open up the vocational support project for deaf and hard-of-hearing students at Saint Paul’s school to young girls, a sewing training program was designed jointly by the local association Farming our Future, The Ivory Foundation and the school’s management.
This choice was made in a context where agricultural activities, mostly carried out by men, leave little room for young women.
To support this initiative, The Ivory Foundation financed the construction of a sewing workshop on the Levi’s Nek farm.
The building, made of wood by the Wendy Lane company – already involved in the construction of the volunteers’ accommodation on the farm – will soon house professional equipment: sewing machines and material adapted to the future learners.
