Making ivy garlands for the Christmas teepee.

During the summer, the tipi in the Villiot garden is covered with climbing beans and squash. With no vegetation left over the winter, we decided to bring it back to life by transforming it into a Christmas tree! We organised a number of workshops adapted to the age range of the garden’s various beneficiaries.

With the CLAJE children, we wove large ivy branches to make garlands. Using felt ribbons, the children attached other plant materials collected from around the garden (red berries, bay leaves, bamboo and pine branches) to the garlands. Once the work was done, the children were able to attach the spiral garland to the tipi.
