New seedling production in the Dawady nursery, Senegal

posted in: Dawady

On the Dawady market garden plot adjoining the health centre and developed by The Ivory Foundation since 2018, Malik and Abdhouramane, the two crop managers, have set up a new production of courgette seedlings in the nursery. Thanks to their expertise and controlled growing conditions, the young plants emerged quickly and, by the end of the month, were ready to be transplanted into the greenhouse.

These courgettes will not just be grown for consumption: they will be brought to maturity for seed production. This approach is part of a drive to gradually empower farming groups through the local production of seeds adapted to the local climate and community needs. A programme supported by the Marie-Pierre Crosnier Mangeat Foundation.
