At Roosboom, young plants have a number of enemies: the sun, lack of water and attacks by locusts and grasshoppers, which love young shoots…
So we designed a system of bottomless trellises that has the advantage of drying out less quickly than plastic seed trays, whose smaller cells dry out quickly.
The trays are positioned 10 cm lower than the surface of the soil, which means they are cooler and more moist, so the plants are not restricted in their growth, and the roots don’t twist around at the bottom of the tray, which is another advantage.
A project undertaken by Designing Hope with the support of the Bel Foundation and The Ivory Foundation.
