We invited a group of 12 children from the Bercy school, accompanied by Designing Hope during their after-school hours, to discover the Transgardens exhibition — games and vegetable gardens bridging Africa at the Instantanée Galerie. The exhibition features the “Coffret des Amis du Potager”, a set of nine educational games designed to raise awareness among young children about sustainable agriculture, nutrition and biodiversity.
On the panels, the children were able to see photographs and images of encounters with the young beneficiaries of the various programmes supported by the association, such as: the school for the deaf and hard of hearing in St Paul, Leribe (Lesotho), the educational farm in Levi’s Nek (Lesotho), the Jardin des Savoir-Faire in Malanti (Eswatini), the Halfway House in Roosboom (South Africa) and the inclusive school in Rufisque (Senegal).
The children then watched a video of young people from St Paul’s School (Leribe, Lesotho) presenting the names of the fruits and vegetables in Memory — Open/Closed in sign language. They had a lot of fun copying the signs, an exercise that turned into an additional memory game at which they excelled!
To conclude the visit, the 12 children were divided into two groups to play games from the Box Set: one group played the ‘Vegetables and Recipes’ game, while the other played Textile Memory (handcrafted memory games made in the Jardin des Savoir-Faire workshop). These games, designed for learning through play, extended the discovery of the exhibition in a fun and participatory way.
